The six years that decide the next twelve
ACES Primary School sits within our Nursery, Primary and Secondary campus in Area 2, Garki District, Abuja, teaching a dual British and Nigerian curriculum in classes of no more than 15 to 20 pupils.
Nigeria’s basic education framework is sound; the persistent national concern is not enrolment but mastery — how many children can genuinely read a passage with understanding, and handle number confidently, by the end of Primary. A child who reaches Junior Secondary without fluent reading does not struggle only in English. They struggle in Biology, in Civic Education, in every subject where the question has to be read before it can be answered.
That is why literacy and numeracy sit at the centre of our Primary curriculum, with Science, the Arts and Social Studies built around them — and why we cap the class size rather than the fees.
The Primary curriculum
A dual British and Nigerian programme, so a child can continue their education here or abroad without a gap to close.
Literacy
Phonics, fluent reading, comprehension and written expression, with the Library & Resource Centre used weekly so reading is a habit, not an assessment.
Numeracy
Number sense before procedure. Pupils are taught why a method works, so word problems later do not defeat them.
Basic Science
Observation, questions and simple experiments — the habits that make secondary practicals straightforward rather than intimidating.
The Arts
Craft, design and music. Cutting, folding and building quietly support the geometry and measurement taught later.
Social Studies
Nigeria, its people and institutions, supported by structured visits to organisations of significance.
ICT
Supervised, structured digital literacy in the ICT suite from Primary upwards — not screen time, but skills.
Moral & Civic
Honesty, integrity and personal judgement, taught explicitly and expected consistently.
Physical Education
Daily outdoor activity on the pitch and courts, with inter-class competition through the year.
Learning that leaves the desk
We prepare pupils for life, not only for the next assessment. Through the Primary years every child will:
- Present to the whole school at a class assembly — researched, rehearsed and delivered by them
- Take part in Creativity Week, and show their own finished work
- Join educational excursions and structured visits across the Federal Capital Territory
- Share responsibility for their environment on Sanitation Day
- Compete in sport, and in regional and national academic competitions
