What happens beyond the timetable

Assemblies, health days, creative workshops and community projects run through the ACES calendar all year. They are where classroom learning meets real life — and where confidence, teamwork and leadership are actually built.

Fruit Day

Our youngest pupils brought in bananas, pineapple, watermelon, apples and oranges, then sorted, named and shared them together. A simple morning — and one of the most useful lessons we teach.

Why fruit matters for young children:

  • Vitamins that build defences. Oranges, pawpaw and mango carry the vitamin C and vitamin A a growing immune system depends on, which means fewer days lost to illness.
  • Steady energy for a long school day. The natural sugars in fruit arrive with fibre and water, so children get a level lift instead of the spike and crash that follows sweets and soft drinks.
  • Fibre for healthy digestion. Bananas, guava and pineapple keep the gut working comfortably — a common and often overlooked cause of restlessness in class.
  • Hydration in the Abuja heat. Watermelon and cucumber are mostly water, and help children stay hydrated when they will not stop to drink.
  • Sharper concentration. Well-fed, well-hydrated children settle faster, listen longer and retain more of what they are taught.
  • Habits that outlast school. A child who learns to reach for fruit at four is far likelier to keep doing it at fourteen.

Fruit Day doubles as a language and numeracy lesson — naming colours, counting portions, describing taste and texture, and taking turns to serve one another.

Regular hands-on sessions where pupils cut, fold and build. Practical work of this kind quietly supports the geometry, measurement and sequencing they meet later in Mathematics.

Open Day & Family Gatherings

Parents join us on the lawn for performances, presentations and the chance to meet the staff who teach their children every day. Our culture of open communication starts here.

Class Assemblies

Each class takes a turn to present to the school. Pupils research, rehearse and speak in front of an audience — the most reliable way we know of building genuine self-confidence.

ACES students carrying out a practical in the science laboratory
Secondary

Science & Innovation Days

Practical sessions and project showcases across Physics, Chemistry, Biology and the Robotics Lab, preparing students for the practical papers in WASSCE, NECO and IGCSE.
